hi nolan. found you by googling "composers sticking out on their own" i'm a self taught 32 year old portland oregon composer who will be going to school for the 1st time this fall (maybe, i might just do private study) i'm recently divorced, unemployed, and doing my best to keep my head above water. the music scene here is elitist and (edited). makes me want to hide in my shell and never come out. your article even though a year old is a breath of fresh air. i believe that no matter how strange and unusual the music may be, that as long as it comes deep within our hearts we've accomplished our mission. truth trumps fame and glory. i just wish all these snobs would disappear. let's not steal each others ideas, let's support each other emotionally! why does it have to be an "idea" it's something mysterious and it takes a special set of ears to listen to what the piece is telling us what to do and where to go. (edited). thank you nolan. i've already bookmarked this site and will tell others.
